The Cherries first ever visit to
'The Meadow' saw a promising start. A corner within 5 minutes saw Morgan's
deep cross beat everyone including Lisa Langrish who must have missed the ball
by a whisker inside the 6 yard area. The possession stakes went to Bournemouth
throughout the first half with Chesham only retaining the ball four times in
the attacking third against the Cherries ten but goals win games and it was
Chesham who notched two before the break without reply. Half Time Chesham 2-0
Cherries.
The second half was a slightly different story with Bournemouth creating the
better opportunities and they should have been facing ten men when keeper,
Mosena took out Langrish who was through on goal but referee, Lipscombe
appeared to take the easy option and showed a yellow card where a red would
have been appropriate punishment for the crime of denying a clear goal scoring
opportunity. This was highlighted when the resultant free kick came to
nothing.
Latterly, it was Langrish who created Bournemouth's only goal when she beat
several players and arrived deep in the area to cross for Lindsey Roe whose
pin-point header gave hope to the team in blue.
The best of Bournemouth's chances saw Lanahan just miss the upright and Morgan
had a shot blocked on the line before Chesham broke away to score their third
goal and keep the Cherries in the relegation zone.
Disappointment for central defender, Claire Heydon who sustained a knee injury
in the second half and now looks set to miss the county cup final with Pompey
next Sunday. Final Score: Chesham United 3-1 AFC Bournemouth Ladies.
The Good News!
Plymouth's victory at Oxford means the Cherries are now safe and retain their
status in the Combination League for next season as only one team is being
relegated this year.
Big congratulations to everyone who has contributed to this success. Success?
Yes, because we have achieved SW Combination status with two games to spare
and although we did it last year we have done it against a better level of
opposition than in the Southern Region. Well done, I am proud of you all.
