AFCB Ladies 4-0 So'ton University
This performance must rank amongst the worst in relation to the standard of the
opposition and it was only the University's lack of ability in front of goal
that meant the Cherries would live to fight another day.
With very little opportunities created by either team during the first ninety
minutes, the game drifted hopelessly into extra time.
Finaly, Bournemouth showed snippets of their ability and when Lindsey Roe beat
the offside trap in the 97th minute she showed composure and class to strike
past the despairing Uni' keeper, Dias De Silva.
The relief was tangible and the tension was eased further with goals from
Georgie Hoban and Charlie Lanahan in the first period of extra time.
The Cherries totally dominated the remaining minutes of the game and the scoring
was completed by Claire Heydon when she volleyed home from a corner.
Yes, Bournemouth secured their place in the quarter final but they will have to
do so much better if they are to progress any further in this competition.
Today's performane can only be put down to the fact that too many players were
ill prepared and as a result their could be major changes to the squad for next
week's crucial match at Oxford City.
